The Big Jump Plan

We hope to be making a big jump.  We intend to head back to the USA before the start of hurricane season.  To accomplish this feat, we need cooperation from the weather and help from some additional crew.  The crew has been recruited.  Let’s see how the weather gods respond…

The whole trip covers over 1300 miles.  We are breaking the trip into two parts.  The first part gets us back to México, but on the East coast this time.  The second part will get us back to the USA.

Panamá to México

The first and longest part of this journey will take us from Colón, Panamá to Cancun, México.  It’s just over 950 miles, so we’ll be breaking the first part of our return trip into three smaller legs.  Our crew joining us for this trip includes Dave’s brother Ken and Ken’s daughter Emma.  We hope they will enjoy the adventure!

Our sail plan will be to leave from Colón and sail for a couple of nights to the island of Providencia, Colombia (map stop #1).  The next stop will be Grand Cayman (map stop #3), which will take three nights at sea.  Finally, we will jump to Isla Mujeres by sailing another couple of overnights.  We are planning to stop for a couple of days’ rest at each of the first two islands.

We will say goodbye to our crew in México as they have jobs to return to.  Mary and I will then have to figure out how to finish the rest of our journey back to the USA, another 350 or so miles away.
