Our trip back to Shelter Bay would be a 20-hour overnight sail. We cut a few hours off the planned overnight by making a 6-hour day trip to anchor at Isla Veraguas just east of Bocas. The island is in the middle of the sea, closest land being about 9 miles away.

We took a swim around the boat and took the really good opportunity to dive our anchor. The water was very clear, and only about 15 feet deep.

As it was in the middle of the sea, there was not too much protection from the waves, so we had a rolly overnight campout.

In the morning, we took the dinghy to shore. It looked challenging with lots of wave breaking on the beach. Mary got very wet on both the landing and the launch. What a trooper!
The beach was a bit disappointing. There was a great long sandy beach with tons of driftwood. Unfortunately, it was also littered with lots of plastic debris. There is no beach cleanup program out on this remote piece of land. We did walk by the one little village. There were six or seven very rustic huts, and only one servicable canoe was visible. No one appeared to be home.

Such a shame there was all that plastic and didn’t look like an easy way to clean it up. The village looks cool. Too bad no one was home.
