Bahía Naranjo, PA

Jungle. More jungle.

We departed Bahía Honda just after 7AM on the day after Christmas to get to Isla Cebaco, about 5 hours down the coast. We were a little sad. Domingo and his family were so nice. It was a special experience.

The prior day, we had a visit from Domingo and his grandson, followed by their loyal dog, who swam out behind their boat to be with them. We exchanged a few more items. We got a boatload of fruits and a carved wooden bowl. They got some motor oil, a nice sun hat, and a bit of cash, y mas.

Later that afternoon, three others came out to use our Starlink internet. They said it was fast compared to the shared internet in the town. I bet! Thanks, Elon Musk. They had some refreshments while surfing the internet for about an hour before we had to shut down the Starlink.

On our way to Cebaco today, we discovered our starter battery has not been charging for a couple days. We found that a 30 amp fuse had blown on the charge controller. Don’t know why. We installed our one and only one spare 30 amp fuse. The battery is charging again.

Also on our way to Cebaco, we checked the wind forecast for Punta Mala (literaly “Bad Point”). We were going to be looking for a wind/weather window to get around Punta Mala with as little pain as possible. Our forecast showed a fair weather window that would close soon, so we bypassed Isla Cebaco and headed to our next stop, Bahía Naranjo, to save a day of travel. We hope our safety trackers don’t mind last minute adjustments to our plans!

On the way to Naranjo, storms were brewing, we got a little bit wet, but we avoided a couple big squalls before anchoring in our new spot at yet another end of the world anchorage. At least we got the salt rinsed off the deck.

  1. What a fantastic place to stop and gain new friends. Time to stock up on fuses. And that you found the problem and were able to fix it. Love the red flags on your tracker! Nice job!
