Marina Papagayo, CR

We successfully transited the five or six miles from Playas del Coco to Marina Papagayo. This marina is located in a privately-owned, well-guarded resort peninsula. They have a Four Seasons (swanky) somewhere in the compound, along with several other well-known resorts. Playas del Coco is six miles by boat, and now 30 miles by car.

Our first stop in the marina was for fuel. $340 for diesel is probably a record. This included 25 gallons of fuel in jerry jugs. I got a half-bag of ice thrown in for free. Woot!

The concierge desk was fab. “Concierge” is such a nice word to be able to use during our Central American travels. The staff was excellent. There’s a well-stocked ship’s store, a small market full of resort sundries and other staples, an expensive bar/restaurant, a beautiful little pool, a well-appointed lounge area, and showers with actual real hot water! This is a Class-A #1 establishment.

Wildlife seems to be increasing as we venture south. There are supposed to be monkeys in the jungle, but we have yet to spy any. You would not believe the assortment of noisy jungle birds. It’s too bad the birds poop a lot, especially on freshly cleaned boats.
