We took another break from camping and spent a couple of days in a hotel in the Augusta area. It was a nice break to enjoy a private bathroom and a king-sized bed!
We explored the Augusta Riverwalk on Labor Day Monday. The Riverwalk follows the Savannah River through town. Since it was Labor Day, pretty much everything was closed downtown. We also explored the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park. This is a tertiary sewage treatment facility with a very nice nature trail system. And birds. And alligators. Amazing!

Gotta sit!
The next day, we explored the Augusta Canal by foot and then by bicycle. The start of the canal had a dam and a working manually operated boat lock. And speaking of locks, there were tons of ‘locks of love’ on the fences at the dam. The 10-mile r/t bike ride took us almost all the way to downtown.

We also drove by some houses for sale. Very interesting. Huge homes for not-as-huge-as-Reno prices! We don’t really want a huge home to settle into when we finish our sailing adventures, but we were impressed with what was available.
It is so much fun to live vicariously through your postings AND pictures! Amazing the difference in home prices vs. Nev., isn’t it!! Our daughter in Oregon real estate says homes are outrageous in Eugene as well! But you’re not quite ready to choose a location, as you are WORLD explorers still! Good for you! Paul and I are leaving next week for a month, traveling to the European Eastern block countries on the Danube…..am excited! Keep in touch! LOL, Sheryl & Paul
