Iceland – The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is a large lagoon that is heated by the run off hot water from the neaby Svartsgnai geothermal power plant. It is rich in silica which give it the light blue color. They gave us a handfull of the silica to put on our faces for a mask. We now look even younger!

In the 1970’s it was found to have healing powers. Along with silica, the water is rich in salt and algae. Because of the rich minerals, very few organisms live in the water. The water averages 99⁰ F – 102⁰ F. We spent almost 4 hours in the lagoon. Ahhhh.
