Here’s our boat. We have a big neighbor boat. The neighbor boat keeps our boat sheltered from north winds. More later!
We left beautiful Agua Verde with plans to stop somewhere a little further south and find shelter from the coromuel winds. Coromuels are notorious winds that come over from the Pacific to the Sea of Cortez in the very late evening – seemingly about the time you hit deep sleep. We had several targets betweenContinue reading “Los Burros”
You might just find an important boat part that is broken and close to causing a disaster! Here we sit in La Paz after three weeks sailing in the sea, and it’s time to wash the boat. Surprise! There are lots of little but important parts on boats. This post is about our main outhaulContinue reading “Why should you wash your own boat?”
We visited our boat friends on ‘Ramble on Rose’ last year at Pto Escondido. We are glad we came back for another visit. The Pto has a great mooring field and awesome slips, but all very BCS pricey. Traveling to Loreto for supplies is more difficult – required a taxi or car rental – thanContinue reading “Puerto Escondido, BCS”
We motored from Frailes to Muertos on Monday. Took around 8 hrs from anchor up to anchor down. No sailing this time – wind was light and from the wrong direction. There are a lot more dwellings than we expected – nice looking homes – dotting the coastline. The last few miles to Muertos wasContinue reading “Nov. 8 Ensenada de Los Muertos”
We are sitting at Descanso Bay near Avalon Harbor. So proud of us to have left the dock after our days of hibernation at Sun Harbor. We have rock and roll for a while as Descanso is not protected like Avalon Harbor. No room in the harbor – art festival weekend.
A few months before we were planning to head south we upgraded our fridge & freezer. We had a holding plate system that ran seawater into a condenser in the boat, and then back out at probably 15 gallons per minute (noisy!). We occassionally got knocks on the hull from passers-by who were concerned ourContinue reading “Boat systems, part 2, food storage and handling”
You may not have had an opportunity to visit the “YO”. She is a fine ship and we’d enjoy you coming aboard some time in some tropical locale. Please do call ahead! We’ve updated the boat over the last few months getting her ready to become our home on the water. These are some ofContinue reading “Boat systems and sailor lore”
We had a sail, yes a real sail, even hitting 7+ kts occassionally transiting from Avalon to Newport. Only a few miles of motoring at the start and end. The winds in SoCal are a bit lighter and less frequent than the San Francisco summers we are used to. The water in Newport Harbor isContinue reading “Newport Beach”
