San Andres is much more active community than Providencia. It is a hot spot for Colombians to vacation. The first day, we explored the town and found the beach, cool beer and mojitos, snorkelers, and found a great dinner place.

On the second day, Saturday, we took a snorkeling tour to Haynes Cay, the “Aquarium”, Rose Cay, and Managlares (mangroves). The boat dropped us off at Haynes Cay, a small island where there were restaurants and a place to store our extra gear. Then we walked through shallow water to Rose Cay to snorkel. It was great snorkeling with a lot of fish. We even saw several well-fed nurse sharks. We were in the postcard – again!

The last day with Ken and Emma found us taking the local bus to find a snorkeling spot. Sadly, a lot of the coral was dead, which is sad. There were quite a few fish and some brain coral. There was also a very friendly dog that followed us along the beach.
When it was time to head back to town, we were lucky a bus was just pulling up. We weren’t quite sure what route he would take to get back to town, only that we only had enough local money for this one ride. Once back to two, we headed for the beach for lunch and another swim.

On Sunday evening, we walked Ken to the airport and said goodbye. Emma left the next morning after walking to the airport again.
We so appreciate them coming and were sorry the trip didn’t work out as planned. There is the retired sailing life of having flexibility and not having schedules. For the working folks that are on a schedule, we don’t really recall how we did that before…
Thank you, Ken and Emma! Next time, we’ll be off schedule!
Looks like a really nice visit!
