It’s said that Sir Francis Drake used this nice little protected bay to work on his ship before plundering a Spanish galleon that held about $350m in treasures.
Drake Bay is about 55 nm from Punto Quepos. We started out around 6AM and were anchor down by 2:30PM. We sailed a full two hours (motor off!) as we approached the bay. Our boat tracker recorded a max speed of 8.3 kts. Just like sailing in San Francisco, except we had monkeys on shore to greet us.

Drake, or more appropriately Agujitas de Drake, is a jump off point into the largest and least visited national park in Costa Rica. It’s a bit of a laid-back community full of tour operators, hotels, restaurants, and a couple of grocery stores. We shared a very nice pescado taco plate for lunch, but it was devoured before we could take a picture.
Great pictures!
