Passage from Mexico to Nicaragua

Before we left Mexico, we had to check out with the Port Captain, Imigration, and Navy. Once they left the boat, our lines were cast and we were off!

Yes, we were a bit nervous. We always are before a big crossing. After being in a port as long as we had been, we started growing roots! It is a 350-mile passage that should take about 50 hours. That’s two overnights, and Mary is not a fan of overnight passages! (She made it by the way.)

We felt better about our passage when we were escorted out of the bay by dozens of dolphins. It reminded us why we do this. There were also some beautiful sunsets, and we had a full moon to help light our way, which made it much nicer.

It was a motor all the way. Mostly calm seas, until 4:30 am on our last day. The seas built a bit and were a bit confused. There were some larger waves that had the bow slamming into the sea. Mary was asleep in the forward cabin until the first set had her awake! We were not in any danger. It was just loud and well a bit scary to hear the bang as the boat slammed into the water. This lasted for several hours as we crossed Fonseco Bay. The seas calmed as we got closer to land. We were treated to a nice, easy entrance into Puesta del Sol Marina.

I am comforted to know several of the people we know will be heading south and we will see them again. That thought eases my mind.
