We finally made it to the apex of our journey. This was one of the most spectacular places we have ever been to. Better than the postcard!

The journey to Machu Picchu had been a bit intense. We started with a couple of flights to get from the USA to Peru, where we spent our first two overnights in Lima. Next, we flew to Cusco while learning to breathe at 11,000 feet. Finally, we took a bus to Urubamba for a couple of days to wait for our Machu Picchu excursion day to begin.
Excusion day! The plan: Take our charter bus from Urubamba to Ollantaytambo. Take the PeruRail train to Aguas Calientes. Take another bus from Aguas Calientes up narrow windy roads to the base of our destination. Then get ready to hike! And along the way, enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Andes as we transitioned from desert to jungle.

Macchu Picchu is so special because it is the best surviving example of an Inca city. It was never found, and therefore never destroyed, by the Spanish conquistadors.
Incredible! Thanks for sharing the pictures. I cannot imagine the atmosphere!
