Hickory, NC

Mary and Robyn have been friends for almot 40 years. It was so nice to visit her and her husband Doug in their small town of Hickory, North Carolina.

Of course, we talked and talked and caught up on our lives. We visited the local art museum where Robyn volunteers. Doug took us to the town of Blowing Rock, where we walked around a beautiful lake and then did some window shopping in the quaint town.

Dave and I were heroes one day. We rented a kayak on Lake Hickory. On our way back to the dock, we saw a couple in the water by some rocks. They had come there with their daughters for a relaxing time by the lake. As the mother was climbing down the rocks into the water, she fell and hurt her back. They called us over to help. We flagged down a pontoon boat. They had a phone to call 911. We stayed with them until the EMTs arrived and we knew they were in good hands. It was an exciting day.

After that, it was time for us to go out to dinner at one of Doug and Robyn’s favorite restaurants. It is alwas good for the soul to reconnect with long-time friends.

  1. Hi guys! Your travels are so cool! Love the lakes, falls, small towns!! Your rescue story reminds me of the benediction always given by our pastor at 1st Pres. here in Carson. “You go nowhere by accident. Where you go the Lord has a purpose in your being there….” There’s more, you could look it up on Google (the benediction given by the Chaplain of the USA Senate back in the 50s, 60s, 70s?????? Love you! Sheryl and Paul
