Going East Across America – Camping, Part 2

Next stop was Yellowstone National Park. We stopped here last year, so it was a quick stop this time. We did manage to see more buffalo, and Dave got some amazing pictures from a safe distance.

Our goal was to be in Charlevoix, MI by the 4th of July, so after Yellowstone, we went along Highway 94 since we hadn’t been on that road before. We past near Dave’s dad’s hometown in North Dakota and then through Fargo. We camped in several great places and a couple of more seedy ones, but only for one night at a time. We got really good at putting up and taking down our rig. One of the campgrounds we stayed at was Lake Antoine Camp Grounds in Iron Mountain, Michigan. The site was great if you ignored the party group camps, the lake was beautiful, but the bathrooms needed attention. We were there for 2 nights and then off towards Charlevoix.

It is always exciting to cross the Mackinac bridge. For those who don’t know, at 5 miles, it is the longest suspension bridge in the US. It connects the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan.
