Matanchen Bay

This beautiful bay is just south of San Blas. The beach is beautiful and the surf is easy on the dinghy landing. We timed it right and there was no swell. It was very peaceful.

It is known for noseeums. They are called jejenes down here. They come out at sunrise and sunset. We thought we were anchored far enough away from shore to avoid them. I thought I had enough bug spray on… well, they found me. Must be that good Michigan  blood!  I am doing well and would go back.

We were told about a jungle tour where a panga takes you up the crocodile infested river. Our guide was able to spot them with no trouble.  As soon as he pointed them out we saw them too. We also saw a lot of turtles. We stopped at a crocodile rescue place and saw them up close and personal. At the end of the river there was a spring where brave people can swim. Mind you there is only an old wire fence between you and the crocodile infested river is. We settled for a beer on shore.
