We saw Fort San Lorenzo on the hill overlooking our anchorage in the Chagre s River a few weeks back. Since then, we have wanted to visit. It is a 5.5-mile walk along a nice paved road. We set out around 9:30AM, just as a squall passed. We waited for a few minutes under cover until it passed and had no more rain the rest of the day.

Walking, you see a lot more than when you are driving or riding a bike. We were rewarded by seeing monkeys in the trees, an old bunker, and a lot of interesting trees. There were at least five groups of monkeys, two we saw, and three others we heard.
The fort now sits on top of a cliff. The first fort was built near the water and was soon taken over and destroyed. They are renovating this fort and have a small museum inside.

COOL! love the monkeys!!
